Fostering Change in School Culture
through Character Education (FCSCCE)

New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), in collaboration with the New Jersey Center for Character Education (NJCCE), is seeking to identify five schools that are aspiring to effectuate change in school culture through the implementation of an effective character education initiative. The project, Fostering Change in School Culture through Character Education (FCSCCE) will provide an opportunity for aspiring school teams to improve the quality of their programs by pairing them with a selected NJ mentor school team recognized for its best practices in the Social and Character Education Development Process model (see details for explanation). Together these teams will collaboratively examine the processes of building and sustaining a quality character education initiative and creating an action plan focused on fostering positive school change and student development.

The purpose of this project is to:

 Provide schools that aspire to improve professional practice and student outcomes with opportunities for development through a year-long collaborative relationship with mentor schools identified as modeling best practices;
 Provide guidance and support that will help educators address challenges along their journey toward more effective social and character education programs; and
 Assess the processes of developing, implementing, and sustaining high-quality character education initiatives.
